GAIL suspends director Ranganathan after being arrested by the CBI

Government owned GAIL confirmed today that it has suspended ES Ranganathan who was serving as the Director (Marketing) after being arrested by CBI for allegedly taking bribes from private companies to give discounts to buy petrochemical products from the Government Enterprise.

GAIL notified Ranganathan’s suspension as, This is to inform that President of India (vide letter no. C-31022/1/2022-VIG-PNG dated18th January, 2022) in exercise of the powers conferred by Rule 25 of GAIL Employees (Conduct Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1986 placed Shri E. S. Ranganathan under suspension with effect from 18.01.2022.The CBI on Friday evening conducted searches in connection with the discounts offered by Ranganathan in to private companies in alleged exchange of Rs. 50 Lakhs. On Saturday it searched Ranganathan’s Noida residence and the GAIL headquarters.

After questioning Ranganathan, CBI arrested him on the 16th of January. GAIL on Monday communicated to stock exchange that the CBI has registered an FIR against Ranganathan and other private persons on the charges of criminal conspiracy, demand and obtaining undue advantage by public servant, taking undue advantage to influence public servant, bribing public servant etc.
