Due to recent aggravated economic crisis all the import relying sectors of Sri Lanka has seen a drastic impact on the supply of the material . While the paper supplied to Sri Lanka is also seeing a surge in the impact of this economic crisis .This week one the most read daily newspapers “The Island” announced for a halt in the paper printing due to the shortage of papers in the market .
The newspaper stated in a notice “We regret to inform our readers that we have been compelled to suspend the publication of THE ISLAND print edition on Saturday”. This notice was published in the front page of its Fridays editions and further attributed the decision to be based on the “ prevailing newsprint shortage”.
Previously this month the Sri Lanka’s education department could not hold up the term examinations for millions of students across the country as they didn’t have the sufficient supply of paper .Authorities have stated that they could not complete the printing of handbooks for the next starting term amid the deficient of paper in the country . It can been seen that the countries print media has been one of the worst effected victim of the profitable extremity .
