In a wide ranging interview with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, Moscow doesn’t remove the possibility to use nuclear weapons.

Lavrov warns that in the Ukraine conflict, the NATO is already participating as a proxy by providing Ukraine with weapons, which could escalate this conflict into World War Three.

In a wide ranging interview, aired on Monday, Sergey says the risk of using nuclear weapons must not be underestimated and that it all depends upon the situation on ground.

On the same day, before the interview was aired, United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Kyiv and promised more military assistance to Ukraine amid crisis. Austin also mentioned that United States want to see Russia “weakened” and pledged to arm Ukraine to defend itself from Russia.

US is also hosting a gathering of 40 countries this week to talk on weapons delivery to Ukraine.

During the interview on Monday, Lavrov was asked about the necessity of preventing World War III and whether the current situation is equivalent to the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, a low moment in US-Soviet ties. Russia, according to Lavrov, is working hard to ensure that nuclear conflict is avoided at all costs.

“Everything we do is based on this key position.” “The stakes are high right now,” Lavrov remarked. “I wouldn’t want to intentionally raise those dangers.” That would be appealing to many people. The threat is real and immediate. And we must not take it lightly.”

Russia’s two-month invasion of Ukraine, the largest attack on a European country since 1945, has killed or injured thousands of people, levelled towns and cities, and pushed more than 5 million people to flee to other countries.
