Mumbai, July 11 (PTI) Aaditya Thackeray, the head of the Yuva Sena, has been accused of “using” children at “Save Aarey” protest, according to the national organisation for children’s rights.

Vivek Phansalkar, the commissioner of the Mumbai Police, has received a letter from Anu Chaudhary, the registrar of the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), demanding the filing of an FIR.

She stated in her letter that Dhrutiman Joshi had filed a complaint with the NCPCR stating that Aaditya Thackeray had utilised young children in his political activities or the so-called “Save Aarey” rally.

According to the Sahyadri Rights Forum, Joshi is its legal director.

According to Chaudhary, “via the Twitter link, youngsters are seen engaging in the protest brandishing placards.”

According to her, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act’s section 75 is violated by the act, and the NCPCR has taken cognisance of the situation.

She said, “In light of the foregoing, the commission thus begs you to promptly file an FIR against the accused persons to conduct an expedient investigation into the situation.”

The commission also recommended that the children be located and brought before the Child Welfare Committee in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act to record their comments.

After receiving this letter, the Commission may request an Action Taken Report within three days and a copy of the FIR and the children’s statement. Former Maharashtra environment minister Aaditya Thackeray recently protested alongside environmentalists at Aarey Colony,  known as Mumbai’s “green lung,” against the Eknath Shinde govt’s decision to resume building a metro carshed there.
