Despite receiving mixed reviews, Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal” continues its triumphant journey at the box office. After a stellar opening weekend, the film maintains its dominance in the second weekend, raking in an impressive Rs. 37 crore on Saturday alone, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.

The cumulative domestic collection for “Animal” has now reached an astounding Rs 398.53 crore. On Saturday, the overall Hindi occupancy rate reached 49.12%, with night shows commanding a significant 62.29% share of Hindi screenings. The film also achieved occupancy rates of 40.36% in Telugu and 33.25% in Tamil. Worldwide, “Animal” has surpassed the Rs 600 crore mark in earnings.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s creation has exceeded the lifetime earnings of Salman Khan’s “Tiger Zinda Hai” and currently claims a spot in the top 10 list of all-time highest-grossing movies worldwide. While it has yet to surpass the revenue of the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” which earned Rs 464.8 Cr in its first week, “Animal” secured Rs 337.58 Cr. Nevertheless, it outperformed other big-budget releases in the first week, including SRK’s “Pathaan” (Rs 318.50 crore) and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” (Rs 284.63 crore). “Animal” even surpassed the domestic earnings of the highest-grossing movie of all time, “Dangal,” which made Rs 387.38 crore upon its 2016 release.

Featuring Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor in significant roles, “Animal” is expected to maintain its stellar run until Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” hits theaters on December 21. However, it may face competition from Prabhas’ “Salaar,” also scheduled for release on the same day, particularly in the southern states.

Rashmika Mandanna, one of the key players in the film, took to social media to defend “Animal” and provide insights into her character Gitanjali. She stated, “She is pure, real, unfiltered, strong, and raw… As an actor, I would question some of Gitanjali’s actions, and I remember my director telling me – this was their story, Ranvijay’s & Gitanjali’s. It was their love and passion, their families, and their lives – this is who they are.” Despite facing criticism for allegedly glorifying toxic masculinity and being excessively violent and gory, “Animal” continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
