reporterOn the occasion of World Health Day, we celebrate ten visionary doctors whose unwavering commitment, compassion, and innovation are redefining the very essence of healthcare. Beyond treating illness, these trailblazers are shaping a future where medicine is more accessible, ethical, and patient-centric.
Through groundbreaking work, community impact, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence, they stand as beacons of hope—proving that true healing begins with purpose, leadership, and a deep sense of humanity.
Dr. Amita Sunny Thakur, Cosmetologist, Founder – Dr. Amita’s Skin Aesthetic Clinic
Dr. Amita Sunny Thakur is a cosmetologist and the founder of Dr. Amita’s Skin Aesthetic Clinic, where science-driven treatments are combined with personalized care. As a skin and aesthetic doctor, she specializes in advanced skincare treatments, laser procedures, anti-aging therapies, acne management, and pigmentation correction. For her, aesthetics is not just about enhancing appearance. It is about restoring confidence, self-worth, and encouraging self-care.
Her interest in skin and aesthetics began during her early medical years. She strongly believed that when a person feels comfortable in their own skin, it reflects in their personality and overall presence. With that conviction, she pursued advanced training in cosmetology and decided to establish her own clinic. Her vision was clear. She wanted to create a space where medical science meets aesthetics, and where patients feel heard, respected, and never judged.
The journey of building her clinic has required patience and perseverance. Starting a medical practice involves significant investment, from advanced machines to infrastructure, along with the challenge of earning trust in a competitive field. Growth did not happen overnight. It came through consistent results, ethical practice, and patient satisfaction. Over time, her clinic built a strong foundation rooted in credibility and care.
Her biggest inspiration has been her family. The encouragement from her parents, husband, and in-laws gave her the courage to pursue her dream confidently. As a woman entrepreneur in the medical field, she faced moments of self-doubt, societal expectations, and the pressure to balance family life with professional ambition. Establishing credibility in a competitive, often male-dominated space required resilience. Yet, she believes that women do not have to choose between family and career. With support, discipline, and determination, both can flourish together.
Beyond her profession, she embraces her roles as a mother, wife, and homemaker. She enjoys creating educational skincare content to spread awareness and loves celebrating life’s small moments with her family. For her, success is not limited to professional milestones. It includes building a happy home and meaningful relationships.
She believes success is built quietly through consistency, faith, and hard work. It is shaped by early mornings, long days, and unwavering commitment. For her, true success lies in the confidence she restores and the trust her patients place in her. And she believes this is only the beginning of a much larger journey.
Dr. Vikramjeet Singh Dhingra, Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Vikramjeet Singh Dhingra is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon whose work lies at the intersection of science, aesthetics, and emotional well-being. His practice is driven by a deeper purpose to not just treat, but to enhance confidence and happiness in his patients.
His journey into plastic surgery, as he describes it, was guided by destiny. Over time, he developed a strong fascination for the transformative power of his field. While treating illness brings visible relief and gratitude, he found a more complex and meaningful challenge in working with individuals who are physically healthy but seek to improve their appearance and emotional confidence. This pursuit of creating happiness beyond healing became the foundation of his work.
For Dr. Dhingra, plastic surgery is not merely about physical change but about understanding the emotional and psychological aspects of transformation. Each patient presents a unique journey, and achieving satisfaction requires both technical precision and deep empathy.
His greatest inspiration comes from his patients. Their trust, expectations, and journeys continuously motivate him to refine his skills and push boundaries in his field.
One of the most significant challenges he highlights is internal overcoming self-doubt and navigating the dilemmas within one’s own mind. He believes that mastering these internal battles is often more difficult than any external obstacle, yet essential for growth and excellence.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Dhingra is also passionate about teaching, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of medical professionals.
His message to aspiring doctors is simple yet profound: follow your dreams and enjoy the journey. He emphasizes that success is not just about reaching milestones but about embracing the process of growth and learning along the way.
He also acknowledges the unwavering support of his family, which has been instrumental in helping him pursue his path with confidence and clarity.
For Dr. Dhingra, the journey is ongoing one that continues to evolve with every patient, every challenge, and every step toward creating meaningful impact through his work.
Dr. Ankur Verma, Emergency Physician, Certified Carnivore Coach
Dr. Ankur Verma is an Emergency Physician with nearly two decades of experience, a Certified Carnivore Coach, and the host of The DESI EM Project podcast. His work today stands at the intersection of emergency medicine and metabolic health, driven by a deeply personal turning point.
In 2021, a routine blood test revealed triglyceride levels of 600 and a dangerously high TG/HDL ratio. As a physician trained to recognise acute crises instantly, he was forced to confront a silent one unfolding within himself. That moment reshaped his trajectory. Determined to understand the root cause, he returned to foundational medical sciences and expanded far beyond conventional curricula, studying biochemistry, metabolism, nutrition science, anthropology, and evolutionary biology.
Through this deep inquiry, he began questioning modern dietary patterns, particularly high carbohydrate, grain heavy, predominantly vegetarian diets common in India. After transitioning to a carnivore forward, animal based dietary approach, he observed dramatic improvements in his own biomarkers, energy levels, and overall health. In his 40s, he describes himself as fitter and metabolically stronger than he was in his 20s. Similar transformations in his family and close circle strengthened his conviction.
Within the emergency department, he began noticing recurring metabolic patterns underlying acute presentations such as heart disease, diabetes complications, fatty liver disease, thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune disorders, and cognitive decline. This observation led him and his team to conduct prospective epidemiological analysis within their patient population and publish case series exploring nutritional and metabolic drivers of disease.
In 2021, he launched The DESI EM Project to expand conversations around emergency medicine and metabolic health. Through interviews with clinicians, researchers, coaches, and individuals who transformed their health, he broadened public dialogue around lifestyle driven disease. He now offers carnivore based metabolic consultations, guiding clients who report improvements in conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, PCOS, fatty liver disease, autoimmune disorders, and more.
Dr. Verma continues to experiment on himself, collecting data and sharing observations about species specific lifestyle approaches. Outside medicine, he prioritizes family time, travel, social connections, and intense physical training.
He does not consider himself successful yet. For him, success is ongoing work. His message to aspiring professionals is clear: seek to inspire, not merely influence. In his view, reversing chronic disease through lifestyle demands perseverance, consistency, and discipline, and the journey is far from over.
Dr. Mayur Rabhadiya, Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon
Dr. Mayur Rabhadiya is an Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon based in Mumbai, specializing in knee arthritis management and advanced robotic knee and hip replacement surgeries. His clinical approach focuses on restoring mobility and improving quality of life through a combination of medical, non-surgical, and surgical treatments.
His journey into medicine began with a moment of clarity. Despite securing admission in an engineering college, he realised early on that his true calling lay elsewhere. Choosing to realign his path, he pursued medicine, and during his internship, discovered a deep interest in orthopedics. The ability to help patients regain movement and independence became the driving force behind his specialization.
Dr. Rabhadiya completed his MBBS from Sion Hospital, followed by D’Ortho from Karnataka Medical College, Hubli, and DNB in Orthopedics from Bhabha Hospital, Mumbai. He further enhanced his expertise with a Fellowship in Robotic and Computer-Navigated Joint Replacement from H N Reliance Hospital, Mumbai.
His practice has evolved toward robotic and minimally invasive joint replacement techniques, with a strong focus on precision, faster recovery, and patient-centric care. Alongside surgical interventions, he actively works with joint preservation therapies, including biologic treatments such as Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC), ensuring that surgery is recommended only when truly necessary.
Coming from a humble background with no medical lineage, his journey has been built entirely on self-learning, discipline, and resilience. Without external guidance or connections, he navigated his path through persistence and the ability to learn from challenges.
Beyond clinical practice, he is deeply committed to patient education and social impact. He regularly creates simplified educational content on orthopedic health and participates in charitable initiatives, including medical camps and distribution of orthopedic aids for underserved communities.
Outside his profession, he maintains a balanced lifestyle through sports, walking, singing, and spending quality time with family.
His message to aspiring doctors is clear: background does not define success. With dedication, continuous learning, and strong ethics, it is possible to build a meaningful career. For him, success is not a destination but an ongoing journey—measured by patient trust and the ability to help people live pain-free, independent lives.
Dr. Shweta Bharti Suryakant Khopde, Consultant Rheumatologist, researcher, & academician
Dr. Shweta Bharti Suryakant Khopde is a Consultant Rheumatologist, researcher, and academician dedicated to improving the lives of patients living with arthritis and autoimmune diseases. She is the owner of Pimpri Chinchwad Rheumatology Clinic, is attached with Manipal Hospital, and also serves as an Assistant Professor at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, where she teaches and mentors future doctors.
Her journey into rheumatology began during her MD Medicine postgraduate training, where she developed a strong interest in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory arthritis. Initially, she had planned to pursue DM in Gastroenterology and had even secured a seat through the NEET Super Speciality examination. However, her growing fascination with autoimmune disorders made her realise that rheumatology was where her true passion lay. She went on to pursue FICR (Fellowship in Rheumatology) and also completed the EULAR certification from Switzerland, further strengthening her expertise in diagnosing and managing complex rheumatic conditions.
Driven by her commitment to patient care and awareness, Dr. Khopde established Pimpri Chinchwad Rheumatology Clinic, aiming to provide specialised treatment for patients suffering from arthritis, lupus, and other autoimmune diseases. Alongside her clinical practice, she actively contributes to research and academics, having published several national and international research papers in rheumatology. She has also written health awareness articles for The Times of India, helping educate the public about rheumatological conditions.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of her work is witnessing patients reclaim their quality of life. Patients who were once bedridden due to conditions such as Ankylosing Spondylitis are now able to lead active lives with proper treatment. She has also helped many women with autoimmune conditions like lupus and mixed connective tissue disease safely deliver healthy babies under careful medical supervision, which she considers one of the most rewarding outcomes of her work.
Her greatest inspiration has always been her family. She credits her parents and sister for their constant encouragement, while her husband and brother in law have been pillars of support throughout her journey.
Balancing medicine with personal life has not always been easy. As a woman doctor building a specialised practice, she has faced the challenge of long working hours and constant dedication. Recently, she also embraced a new and beautiful role in life, becoming a mother just nine months ago. Managing motherhood alongside a demanding medical career has been challenging but deeply fulfilling.
Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Khopde actively participates in health awareness initiatives, particularly focusing on arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and women’s health, as many patients continue to live with symptoms for years before receiving a proper diagnosis.
Her message to aspiring professionals is simple yet powerful: believe in your vision, stay committed to continuous learning, and never underestimate your potential. For her, success is not measured only through professional achievements but through the difference she is able to make in people’s lives. Seeing patients regain mobility, live without pain, and achieve important life milestones is what truly motivates her to continue her work every day.
Dr. Arpit Bansal, Laparoscopic & cancer surgeon, gut specialist
Dr. Arpit Bansal is a laparoscopic and cancer surgeon, gut specialist, and longevity-focused biohacker working at the intersection of advanced surgery, preventive medicine, and human performance science. His work has evolved beyond conventional disease management into a systems-based approach centered on gut health, metabolic optimization, inflammation control, and long-term resilience.
His journey began in surgical oncology, where years of treating complex and often end-stage diseases revealed a deeper truth: medicine was highly effective at intervention, but often late in addressing the root causes of illness. Repeatedly witnessing the impact of chronic inflammation, gut dysfunction, poor metabolic health, and lifestyle-driven disease patterns led him to rethink the traditional reactive model of care. This shift pushed him toward Medicine 3.0, longevity science, and evidence-based biohacking, where prevention and performance become as important as treatment.
Over time, his professional path transformed from treating disease to optimizing human biology. Today, he integrates genomics, gut microbiome science, HRV tracking, metabolic markers, recovery protocols, and precision lifestyle interventions into his work. What makes his approach especially powerful is that it is deeply experiential he consistently experiments on himself through fitness, endurance training, recovery systems, and performance optimization protocols, allowing science to meet lived reality.
His inspiration comes from science, nature, and the patients who challenge conventional thinking. One of the greatest challenges in his journey has been moving away from a purely treatment-based surgical mindset toward a preventive, systems-driven framework in a medical ecosystem that often remains reactive. Choosing to think upstream rather than downstream required both conviction and courage.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Bansal is a scuba diver, bird photographer, and fitness enthusiast, pursuits that reflect his deep curiosity about life, biology, and performance in its purest forms. He also creates educational content focused on biohacking, longevity, gut health, and performance science, helping translate complex medical concepts into practical, actionable insights.
His message to aspiring doctors is direct and future-focused: do not just learn how to treat disease, learn how the body functions in health. Understanding metabolism, gut health, sleep, recovery, and lifestyle medicine will define the next era of healthcare.
For Dr. Arpit Bansal, success lies in aligning science, lifestyle, and purpose. His mission is no longer limited to treating illness it is about helping people build resilient, high-performance health that lasts a lifetime.
Dr. Sweekar Shenoy, Consultant Anaesthetist, Medical content creator, Artist & Rapper
Dr. Sweekar Shenoy, popularly known as “Dr Sleep” on social media, is a Consultant Anaesthetist, medical content creator, artist, and rapper, blending clinical precision with creativity and humor. His journey in medicine began in 2009 at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, where he started his MBBS. After graduation, he gained early international exposure by working in the Caribbean, before returning to India to pursue his residency in Anaesthesia at Manipal University.
Following residency, Dr. Shenoy served as a Senior Resident at KMC, where he handled a wide range of complex cases and procedures under the mentorship of exceptional seniors and teachers. These formative years strengthened not only his technical expertise but also his perspective on what anaesthesia truly represents.
For Dr. Shenoy, anaesthesia is far more than the common stereotype of “just sitting in a chair.” He defines it as the artful application of pharmacology to preserve a patient’s physiology, ensuring they leave the operating theatre in the same stable condition in which they entered. In his words, anaesthetists are the guardian angels of the operating theatre, quietly ensuring that every surgery proceeds safely and smoothly while the surgeon performs the visible task.
His inspirations include his former Heads of Department at KMC, Dr. Krishna HM and Dr. Sumesh Rao, along with several respected seniors and colleagues from Manipal who shaped his growth. His father, also a doctor, played a foundational role in inspiring him to pursue medicine. On a deeply personal note, he credits Dr. Salonee, whom he fondly calls his “wonder drug,” as a constant source of inspiration and strength.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Shenoy has built a vibrant digital identity through comedic medical reels on Instagram, where he has already grown a community of 10.5K+ followers. His creativity extends further into art and rap, reflecting a personality that thrives equally in science and self-expression.
His message to aspiring professionals is simple yet powerful: believe in yourself relentlessly. Every skill, strength, and resource required for success already exists within you. Set a goal, stay hungry, and pursue it with consistency. And above all, remember that life is short—so chase every passion that makes you feel alive.
For Dr. Sweekar Shenoy, this is only the beginning. The story of Dr Sleep is still unfolding, and the best chapters are yet to come.
Dr. Shilpa Rao, Founder & CEO – Sweet Smiles Dental Clinic and Implant Centre
Dr. Shilpa Rao is the Founder and CEO of Sweet Smiles Dental Clinic and Implant Centre in Viman Nagar, Pune, and a dedicated dental surgeon committed to delivering ethical, high-quality, and patient-centric care. Her work goes beyond dentistry—it is about restoring confidence, comfort, and trust through every smile she transforms.
For Dr. Rao, dentistry was never just a profession; it was a calling that seamlessly blends science, precision, and the power to impact lives. Over time, this passion evolved into a larger vision—to create a space where patients feel genuinely cared for, not just clinically treated. This vision led to the establishment of her own clinic, built on trust, empathy, and excellence.
Her journey has been one of perseverance and purpose. Building her practice from the ground up required resilience, continuous learning, and the courage to navigate uncertainty. While she steadily established herself in the field, her personal battles shaped her even more profoundly. Living with endometriosis, undergoing multiple surgeries, and managing an autoimmune disorder tested her physically and emotionally. Balancing health, profession, and responsibilities was not easy—but these challenges strengthened her, deepened her empathy, and allowed her to connect more meaningfully with her patients.
Her greatest inspiration has been her family, whose unwavering support and belief have been her constant anchor. As a woman entrepreneur, she has navigated the pressures of balancing multiple roles, breaking stereotypes, and proving credibility in a competitive environment. Yet, every challenge became a stepping stone toward growth.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Rao is deeply committed to raising awareness about endometriosis through her initiative, Endostrongg. What began as a personal struggle has transformed into a platform that educates, supports, and empowers women—turning pain into purpose.
Her message to aspiring professionals is clear: embrace your struggles, because they often shape your greatest strengths. Stay consistent, believe in your journey, and prioritize your health alongside your ambition.
For Dr. Shilpa Rao, success is not just about building a practice—it is about resilience, impact, and meaningful change. Every life she touches and every story she transforms is a reminder that this journey is only just beginning.
Dr. Soma Sarkar, Dermatologist
Dr. Soma Sarkar chose dermatology in 2005 with a very practical vision in mind. At the time, it was considered a non-emergency specialty that offered structured working hours and a balanced nine-to-five lifestyle. That was her primary reason for pursuing it as her MD subject. However, by the time she completed her training, the landscape of dermatology had evolved significantly. Aesthetic medicine was expanding rapidly, market demands were shifting, and the specialty was transforming into one of the most dynamic and lucrative fields in healthcare. What began as a decision rooted in stability evolved into an opportunity filled with growth and impact. In hindsight, she describes it as serendipity that worked in her favour.
Coming from a humble middle-class background, her journey has been built on discipline and perseverance. Born and raised in Ambernath, she travelled nearly two hours each way to Navi Mumbai for her graduation and post-graduation. Later, during her professional years, she continued commuting long distances from Ambernath to Bandra. Carrying books, travelling for hours daily, and balancing intense academic and clinical demands were part of her routine for years. These were challenges—but never barriers.
Today, she runs a successful dermatology practice in Bandra, built over nearly two decades, with additional clinics in Bangalore and Goa. Beyond clinical practice, she has expanded into multiple verticals including a content platform, a training academy, and involvement in software development solutions designed to help doctors manage their clinics more efficiently. Her journey has evolved beyond medicine into entrepreneurship and innovation.
She draws inspiration from powerful global women such as Indra Nooyi, Malala Yousafzai, Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, and Priyanka Chopra. What resonates with her most is their grit, clarity, and refusal to wait for validation. She believes that strong women create their own identities rather than waiting for permission.
Her path has not been without resistance. She has faced rejection, exclusion from professional platforms, bullying within her fraternity, and exploitation in corporate environments. There were moments when she was not offered a seat at the table. Over time, she learned that when you are not invited, you build your own table.
Beyond her professional life, she is also a dedicated single mother to her 13-year-old son. For her, success is not defined by recognition alone, but by resilience, reinvention, and the courage to choose the harder path when it matters.
Dr. Soma Sarkar firmly believes that true success begins with courage and integrity. When intent is clear and values are strong, achievement becomes inevitable. While she acknowledges the importance of financial growth, she emphasizes that it should never be the sole focus—money is a by-product of excellence, not the foundation of it.
Her philosophy is simple yet powerful: strive for excellence every single day. Push your limits, refine your craft, and commit to continuous improvement. When you choose mastery over shortcuts, rewards follow organically. Stay consistent, stay focused, and do not lose direction during challenging phases.
Dr. Rutuja Kulkarni, Board-certified MD Dermatologist
Dr. Rutuja Kulkarni is a board-certified MD Dermatologist practicing across two clinics in Germany. Her work spans dermatological treatments, aesthetics, acne management, and, most notably, dermatosurgery with a special focus on skin cancer surgeries. For her, this aspect of dermatology carries the deepest meaning, where precision, trust, and responsibility come together in life-impacting ways.
Alongside her clinical work, she is also the co-founder of Medziel (@medziel), a program designed to help Indian doctors navigate their journey to Germany for specialization. By simplifying the process, reducing financial barriers, and offering strategic guidance, she is helping others achieve the very dream she once had to navigate alone.
Her journey into dermatology began with a childhood visit to a dermatologist for acne treatment. What stayed with her was not just the treatment, but the presence of the doctor herself, warm, accomplished, and deeply inspiring. That moment quietly planted the seed of a dream. Years later, that dream evolved into a bold decision to pursue dermatology training in Germany, long before she had any certainty that it would work.
After completing her MBBS in India, she committed herself fully to this path. For an entire year, she worked two jobs, covering both day and night shifts, while spending every late evening learning German from scratch. She saved relentlessly, handled every document and visa form herself, and steadily built the finances, language proficiency, and courage required to move abroad.
The moment she cleared her German medical licensing examination and secured a dermatology residency marked the culmination of eight years of determination. It was a milestone that once felt impossible. What followed was residency, marriage to a partner who believed in her from the very beginning, and eventually the title she had worked tirelessly toward: board-certified MD Dermatologist in Germany.
Her greatest inspirations remain her parents, who raised her with discipline and ambition, and her husband, whose unwavering belief in equality and partnership gave her strength through the most demanding years. As a woman, her journey carried layered challenges: convincing loved ones to trust her move abroad, adapting to a foreign language and system, and fighting for space as an expat in a highly competitive specialty. Yet, she persisted.
Beyond medicine, she finds joy in travel, painting, playing the piano, curating thoughtful gatherings, and embracing wellness through Pilates and matcha-fueled routines.
Her message to aspiring professionals is powerful: if your dream feels impossible, start moving anyway. Solutions reveal themselves only when you begin.
For Dr. Rutuja Kulkarni, success is not just about titles, clinics, or geography. It is about the pride that comes from building a life entirely on your own terms and then turning that journey into a path for others through Medziel.
