A new species of jumping spiders found around Thane in Mumbai has been named after the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police ( ASI) Tukaram Omble, who took 23 bullets and sacrificed his life for the capture of the infamous extremist Ajmal Kasab. His efforts in capturing the terrorist alive was also documented in former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria’s book, ‘Let Me Say It Now’. Ajmal Kasab was tried and hanged while his Lashkar-e-Taiba counterparts were killed in the encounter that followed the 26/11 terror attack. Icius tukarami, the name of the species, was one of the two spider species revealed by Dhruv Prajapati on Twitter. The other species of spider has been named Phintella cholkei and it is found around Thane and Aarey Milk Colony.
