In the last two weeks, a series of attacks have been carried out on Greater Toronto Area’s Hindu temples amidst the ongoing truckers’ protest. Reports say that in the span of 10 days, around six Hindu temples have been vandalized.

The event started on January 15 when some miscreants tried breaking into the Shri Hanuman Mandir in the GTA town of Brampton. On January 25, the attackers broke into Maa Chintpurni Mandir in Brampton and vandalized it.

Another attack was carried out on 30 January at the Hindu Heritage Centre (HHC). The attacks have left people and the priests traumatized.

Sources say that these attacks were well-planned. The footage shows two people breaking into the temple between 2 PM. They searched the area for donation boxes.

In a statement given by HHC, they said, “Peel Police have confirmed to Hindu Heritage Centre that it is the same group of individuals who are breaking into temples early morning. Police have also promised to increase patrols around the temple. The community is very shocked and appalled with the high number of break-ins at temples”.

“I turn on all the lights and make sure to look out the windows before opening the temple,” said Pandit Yadu Nath Sharma of the HHC.

The police have summoned the temple administrators and the Indian consulate has promised to investigate the matter.

Until then, various people of the Hindu community in the area are feeling traumatized in their homes and they fear going to temples.
