Vishwa Thacker – Mumbai Uncensored, 19th February 2022

An epitome of courage, fearlessness and valour, Chatrapati Shivaji was no ordinary king. Born on 19th February 1630 in Shivneri Durg to Jijabai and Shahji Bhonsle, he was one of the bravest and fiercest kings that India has ever had. Today, the nation is commemorating his 392nd Jayanti.

Young Shivaji

In his young years, he curiously spent his days observing and absorbing. At a very young age of 16 years, Shivaji captured the Torna fort of Pune, Maharashtra, making it one of the first forts under the Maratha empire. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renamed the fort ‘ ‘Prachandagad’ and reconstructed it.

The very next year, 17-year-old Shivaji gained power in Raigad, Kondana, Chakan and Purandhar forts. He brought Indapur, Baramati and Supa under his control.

He formed Raigad fort, which was his capital for more than a decade.

Mughals feared him

Mughal king Aurangzeb always saw Shivaji as a threat. In a battle, Shivaji lost and was driven out of Pune. Instead of accepting defeat, he fought Khan and regained power. In a few years, he regained all his forts.

In the span of several years, he fought numerous battles with Aurangzeb. Once, Aurangzeb managed to capture him but was outsmarted as he already had an escape plan.

He fought lifelong battles against foreign powers and invaders and never bowed down before them. In his lifetime, apart from building several of his own forts, he even acquired many.

Death and succession

At the age of 50, Shivaji lost his life between 3 to 5 April 1680. British records state that Shivaji died of bloody flux being sick for 12 days, however, many historians disagree. On 21 April 1680, 10-year-old Rajaram was crowned.

Importance of his Jayanti in Maharashtra

Almost 300 statues of Shivaji can be found across Maharashtra, his face full of valour, not to mention innumerable posters and public images. The original inspiration lies in the Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military School (SSPMS) from where the first-ever statue is placed. The day is celebrated state-wide with great enthusiasm. It also observes a public holiday every year.

This economic upswing holds several key points that not only shape the local landscape but also have broader implications for India as a whole.

Infrastructure Development: A Cornerstone for Growth

Ayodhya’s economic growth is intricately tied to significant infrastructure development initiatives. The construction of the Ram Mandir itself has acted as a catalyst, leading to the enhancement of transportation networks, better connectivity, and improved facilities. This not only facilitates the smooth flow of devotees but also attracts investors and businesses looking to capitalize on the city’s expanding infrastructure.

The city has witnessed a surge in road networks, public transport facilities, and modern amenities, transforming it into a more accessible and attractive destination for both tourists and investors. The ripple effects of this infrastructure development extend beyond the immediate religious context, laying the groundwork for Ayodhya’s economic evolution.

Tourism Boost: Ayodhya’s Ascendance as a Pilgrimage Hub

The Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha events draw pilgrims and tourists from across the country and the world. This influx of visitors stimulates the local economy by generating revenue for hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and local businesses. Ayodhya’s tourism sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, transforming the city into a vibrant hub.

The city’s historical sites, coupled with the spiritual significance of the Ram Mandir, make it an integral part of the religious and cultural tourism circuit. This surge in tourism not only brings economic prosperity but also promotes Ayodhya as a cultural and spiritual center, contributing to India’s global image.

Job Creation and Economic Opportunities: Empowering the Local Workforce

With increased economic activities, Ayodhya is experiencing a surge in job creation across various sectors. The demand for skilled and unskilled labor has risen, providing employment opportunities for the local population. This not only improves the standard of living but also contributes to the overall economic well-being of the community.

As Ayodhya becomes a focal point for cultural events, tourism, and trade, the job market diversifies. The rise in employment opportunities acts as a magnet, drawing talent and contributing to the city’s socio-economic upliftment. This economic empowerment, in turn, fosters a sense of pride and ownership among the local workforce.

Cultural and Handicraft Revival: Nurturing Heritage and Creativity

Ayodhya’s rich cultural heritage is becoming a focal point for cultural and artistic revival. Local handicrafts, traditional art forms, and cultural expressions are gaining prominence, creating avenues for artists and artisans to showcase their skills. This resurgence not only preserves cultural identity but also presents economic opportunities for those involved in the creative arts.

The revival of cultural practices and handicrafts not only serves as a testament to Ayodhya’s rich heritage but also provides a unique selling proposition for the city. Handicrafts, traditional artwork, and cultural performances become avenues for economic growth and cultural exchange.

Attracting Investments: Ayodhya’s Emergence as an Investment Destination

The ongoing developments in Ayodhya have caught the attention of investors seeking emerging markets. The city’s potential for growth, coupled with government initiatives, makes it an attractive destination for investments. This, in turn, contributes to the economic prosperity of the region and fosters a conducive environment for business development.

Investments in Ayodhya go beyond the immediate construction projects; they extend to supporting industries, hospitality, and local businesses. As Ayodhya’s economic landscape diversifies, it attracts a broader spectrum of investments, contributing to the city’s sustainable development.
