For some weeks now, India is witnessing an ongoing Hijab controversy. The row which started from Karnataka slowly spread to other states. And now the issue has reached Bangladesh.

Islamists in Bangladesh have started threatening the lives of the Hindu community residing in the country if India doesn’t start allowing Hijabs in schools. According to sources, a group of Muslims gathered in Dhaka on 18th February to protest against the Hijab ban in India.

In a viral video shared on Twitter, a number of people can be seen with anti-India slogans. “The conspiracy of limiting Muslim girls’ education in India should stop”, read a placard. The group is known to be associated with Islami Andolan Bangladesh, a political party.

On 9th February, one of the biggest political parties of Bangladesh, Islami Chattra Andolan Bangladesh protested against the issue. The next day, a group of women associated with Bangladeshi Islami Mahila Majlis organised a protest wearing Burqas. “Wearing Hijab is a religious right of Muslim women”, read a placard.

Many people have threatened that they will make the lives of Hindu women a living hell in Bangladesh. An Islamist can be seen saying, “Not a single Bangladeshi Hindu woman would come outside homes and walk with religious symbols like Sindoor”. The mob gave him their overwhelming support.

Even Pakistan saw a mass movement carried out by hundreds of women of Jamaat-e-Islami. Their placards even targeted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi: “Modi Stop Terrorism”, read a protest sign. A mob in Lahore burnt Modi’s effigy to show their anger.
