The former captain of the Indian Cricket team Virat Kohli is going to play his 100th Test match today against Sri Lanka at Mohali. The match is going to be held at the PCA stadium.
Though two days ago the match was supposed to be organised and played in a closed stadium seeing the covid crisis BCCI intervened and announced that this match will be played with 50% occupancy by the spectators which nearly amounts for more than 12,000 people watching this great day. There has been a commendable amount of joy and delight among fans for the same. It’s only after so long that Mohali will be hosting a cricket match post-2020.
Considered to be one of the greatest batsmen of all times, Kohli, 33, has scored 7,962 runs, including 27 hundred and 28 fifties in 99 Tests at an average of 50.39. He is also a prolific white-ball batter, having scored 12,311 runs with 43 centuries in 260 ODIs and 3,296 runs in 97 T20s. If we look at the stats Virat Kohli is the only 12th number batsman to ever have played 100 test matches. This impeccable achievement has been appreciated and lauded by all the major renowned cricketers around the world.
“It has been a long journey. Grateful that I’ve been able to make it to 100 (Test matches),” said Kohli ahead of the landmark Test.
Alongside the appreciation, PCA will honour Kohli for becoming the 12th Indian cricketer to play 100 Tests. “The PCA has already put billboards across Mohali and in the stadium to welcome him. We will be felicitating him with a silver plaque,” said Rajinder Gupta, president, PCA.
