Mumbai University on 4th March came out with a circular for conducting exams for the summer 2022 examination with detailed schedule, the circular provided for conducting online exams for Undergraduate (UG) students. However, certain autonomous colleges, in the likes of Mithibai, Jai Hind, Sophia and St Xavier’s decided to conduct exams in the offline mode. According to them they, being an autonomous institutions are free to decide the mode of examination and its schedule.
The students on the other hand seem to be in a very anxious and uncertain situation, uncertainty of their future, and uncertainty regarding the outcome of offline exams. According to the students the entire academic curriculum was being taught in the online mode and so did the exams were conducted in the online mode, suddenly their respective colleges on 5th march come out with a circular announcing offline exams, eventually delivering a shocker to the students studying in these respective colleges. Students are under a severe mental pressure as they have been prepared for an objective based online exams which contains MCQs, but now they have to write a subjective exam which they haven’t done in the course of the last two years.
Outstation students are finding it extremely difficult to find for an accommodation in Mumbai considering the colleges have decoded to conduct offline exams in such a short notice, the students of these colleges (Mithibai in particular) had tried to put forth their plight before their college management but got no assurance and rather the college administration went ahead with their decision to conduct offline exams. Students are opposing the fact that though other students from different colleges will be writing the exams in the online mode, they on the other hand will have to write the exams in the offline mode, thereby causing their marks to be severely affected. Some students have their other competitive exams lined up fro their future avenues.
Thousands of students from colleges across Mumbai have expressed their concerns and plight to Mr. Siddhant Mohite, founder & editor-in-chief of Mumbai Uncensored who has been voicing in solidarity and stands committed towards the future and well being of these students. Mr Mohite has also written a letter to the Hon’ble Education Minister of Maharashtra Government, Shri Uday Samant, highlighting the problems faced by the students if exams are conducted in an offline mode.
