Today we live in the social media era. Undoubtedly, social media is making our lives better; we can access many things but just one click. However, we should always ask questions before blindly following social media; otherwise, it can lead to injuries.

Who are social media fitness coaches?

In this article, we refer to social media fitness coaches as those who share their knowledge on social media through different modes, i.e., videos and blogs.

How do following social media fitness coaches lead us to injuries?

You all will agree that every individual has a different body structure, range of motion, and limitations; when it comes to social media fitness coaches, we see their videos and start following them without asking, “will it work for me?”.

We are not saying they are delivering incorrect knowledge; maybe they are sharing the best of their knowledge, but whatever they are showing you through videos/ photos may not work for you because you have a different body structure.

For example, doing deep squats could be an easy task for a few people, while for a few people, it could be an impossible task because of their body structure and range of motion.

Can we change our structure?

After going through the above example, you might be thinking, “can we change our body structures by some exercises.” but we suggest you not mess up with your structure because we cannot change our structure.

What to do if we are unable to perform a particular exercise?

Yes, that’s true that doing a few particular exercises is not an option for a few people because of their structural limitations. Still, you have to figure out an alternate option to train the targetted group of muscles.

For example, Suppose you are unable to perform squats; in squats, we target the gluteus maximus, minimus, and medius (buttocks), quadriceps (front of the thigh), hamstrings (back of the thigh), adductor (groin), Hip flexors, calves, we can still target these muscles by choosing a different exercise, for muscles mentioned above we can choose leg press exercise. If that is also not possible, we can train each muscle individually.

Takeaway

Before starting any exercise, we should know our structure, and if we have some limitations, we have to choose an alternate option to train the targeted muscles.

Be Safe!
