The concept of ‘Swadeshi’, which was first used by Bengali radicals to agitate against the British rule, was carried on to suit the need of the hour by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and now Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister said that our path and destination for the future are clear. Inaugurating the Jain International Trade Organisation’s ‘JITO Connect 2022 business meet via video link, Modi said the stress should be on the vocal for local’ mantra and reducing the use of foreign goods.

JITO is a global organization connecting Jains across the globe and JITO Connect is an endeavour to help businesses and industry by providing opportunities for mutual networking and personal interactions.

The Prime Minister Modi urged the gathering to work for the ‘Earth’. He elaborated that ‘E’ means prosperity of the environment. He also urged them to discuss how they can support the efforts to build at least 75 Amrit Sarovar in every district by August 15 next year. ‘A’ means to make agriculture more profitable and invest more in natural farming, agricultural technology and the food processing sector. The ‘R’ stands for Recycling and Reusing, Reducing and Working towards Recycling with an emphasis on cyclical economy. ‘T’ means to take technology to as many people as possible.

The entry of China into the market economy and its successful positioning as the manufacturing backyard of the world changed global trade. Being vocal for local is, in the real sense of the term, the recognition and promotion of the intrinsic strength of Indian entrepreneurship waiting to be freed from the shackles of inextricable tangles of land, labour, liquidity and laws as PM Modi pointed out. Now people from remote villages, small shopkeepers and self-help groups can directly sell their products to the government. A self-reliant India is our path as well as our resolve, Modi said.

“Ever since the government e-marketplace that is GeM portal has come into existence, all purchases are done on one platform in front of everyone. Now people from remote villages, small shopkeepers and self-help groups can sell their products directly to the government, today more than 40 lakh sellers have joined the GeM portal,” PM Modi said.

India is engaged in a major reset at this time, moving from market-driven global integration to strategic trade and investment policy, what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has labelled self-reliance.

Today the country is encouraging talent, trade and technology as much as possible. Today the country is registering dozens of start-ups every day, creating a unicorn every week. The youth members of JITO are innovators and entrepreneurs, Mr. Modi asked them to invest in natural farming with zero cost budget, food processing and farming technology, circular economy focused on recycling and reuse, technology and health care.

The Prime Minister further said that the government is ensuring proper arrangements like health care, and medical colleges in every district of the country.
