Khushi Thawani, Mumbai Uncensored, 14th February 2023:
Ganesh Balakrishnan, the co-founder of the Flatheads shoe firm, sobbed openly while discussing the difficulties of running his company on the fifth episode of Shark Tank India season 2. A job deal was presented to the IIT Bombay graduate, but he declined it. Balakrishnan’s wife, Anuradha Pasupathy, shared a post on LinkedIn to provide her perspective on the incident and disclosed that she did not cry even as her husband sobbed on the broadcast. The occurrence quickly gained media attention.
Anuradha, a senior manager at a company, said that she turned down higher-paying positions in order to support Balakrishnan’s ambition. She stated, “I am Ganesh Balakrishnan’s wife, and here is my side of his story. Main kamati hun, wo udata hai (I earn, he spends)”.
“I had my own concerns about how this will work,” she said, “when Ganesh decided to quit his corporate job and start out on his own. In India, starting a business is quite challenging; it takes a highly robust, strong mentality. Will he be able to handle the challenges of business given his upbringing in a fairly traditional family? Will being an honest lamb actually succeed in this world where there are so many wolves?”
The lockout, according to Anuradha, was a major existential shock for them. She claimed that she could have selected a higher-paying profession or even looked into overseas employment choices during the course of the tour. Instead, she opted for security above aspiration.
Despite walking away from the agreement, Balakrishnan garnered notice and even became a Twitter trend. “To be honest, I was dreading the airing of the Flatheads pitch on Shark Tank India,” he wrote in a thank-you message on LinkedIn. “One’s self-confidence isn’t exactly enhanced by crying on live television. Please excuse us if you can’t find your size on http://www.flatheads.in because we’ve virtually run out of stock in India. It would be wonderful if you could inform your friends in the US and the UAE to try our shoes”.
They are the first footwear company in India to fabricate high-performance shoes out of bamboo. In addition to being a natural fibre, bamboo is also lightweight, flexible, and breathable, giving our shoes those same qualities. Natural bamboo fibres are also odourless, moisture-wicking, and temperature regulating. This means that throughout the day, your feet remain dry, cool, and fresh.
