CBI arrests Income Tax Officer Umesh Kumar in a bribery case.

A complaint of bribe was registered by Shadab Mohhamad Javed Sayyed against Shri Umesh Kumar, Income Tax Officer, Kautilya bhavan, bandra kurla complex, Mumbai. As per complainant the officer demanded the bribe of Rs 10,000/- for cancelling one of the pan cards of him.

The complainant is a cousin brother of the accused and had two pan cards. The accused demanded the bribe for cancelling a pan card and also threatened Shadab by stating that there is a provision of prosecution and heavy fine of Rs. 10,000/- and may also be sent to jail for having two PAN cards. The accused promised that he will save Shadab from the prosecution in exchange of the amount.

There is a prima facie proof against Mr. Umesh Kumar for demanding the bribe, also an arrangement was made of Rs 8,000/- which were paid as bribe to him. The allegation mentioned was verified by the credible witnesses.

As of now, the case of section 7 under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been made and further investigations are still going on to find other material proof or cases against the accused.
