After winning a remarkable fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) championship, MS Dhoni has announced that he will not retire.

AHMEDABAD, India (AP) — On Monday, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the defending champion Gujarat Titans in the final of the Indian Premier League.

Medium-pacer Mohit Sharma pushed Chennai to need 10 runs off the final two balls in the final over. Sharma miscalculated his length, allowing Ravindra Jadeja to strike a straight six. Sharma misplayed his line, and Jadeja smashed a four to fine leg to secure a stunning five-wicket victory.

The 41-year-old former India captain had planned to end his cricket career, but he has indicated that the support of his fans has convinced him to try again.

The Chennai Super Kings, led by Dhoni, defeated the Gujarat Titans on Monday night to claim victory and the league title.

Dhoni stated that the simple choice would have been to proclaim his retirement, but he chose to return to lead CSK in 2024.

Dhoni’s Remarkable words

This is the ideal opportunity for my retirement announcement. The quantity of love I have received, however, is astounding. It would be simple to leave, but it would be more difficult to work hard for nine months and attempt to play in another IPL. It would be a gift from me, but it won’t be simple on the body,” Dhoni said moments before he joined his teammates in collecting the IPL trophy.

MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings tied Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians with a fifth IPL championship. Dhoni also participated in his 250th IPL match and 11th overall final.

The first game I played for CSK, the crowd was chanting my name. My eyes were dripping, so I needed to take a break in the dugout. I realised I must take pleasure in this. I believe they adore me for who I am, because I am so grounded and don’t pretend to be someone I’m not. Just keep it basic.

Dhoni Praised Ambati Rayudu

According to Dhoni, “the special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his pitch,” referring to Ambati Rayudu’s final IPL match. But as long as he’s on the team, I have no chance of taking home the Fairplay trophy.

Since the India A tours, I’ve been playing with him regularly. He is a player who is equally adept at spin and pace. This is just remarkable. He’s a lot like me in that he doesn’t like talking on the phone very often, so I had a feeling he’d do something extraordinary today. I pray that this new chapter in his life is fulfilling.

The ‘overwhelmed’ Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi respond to the ‘wonderful’ welcome in India before the 2023 World Cup

The cricket team from Pakistan arrived in India on Wednesday under heavy security as it gets ready to compete in the next, seven-week World Cup. Pakistan is travelling to India for the first time since 2016, and as the team’s captain Babar Azam and other players arrived at the airport in Hyderabad, large groups of enthusiastic fans shouted and chanted their names while being restrained by security agents. On October 5, the ODI competition is set to begin, and Pakistan will play their first match the following day.

Political difficulties between India and Pakistan have a long history, hence the two countries’ international matches are mainly limited to regional and global competitions. However, Pakistan was given a warm welcome in India on Wednesday, and the players posted about it on their official social media account. Babar Azam, the team’s captain, Shaheen Afridi, and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan were among the players to express gratitude to the Indian government and crowd on social media.

The World Cup will consist of 48 games played over 46 days at 10 different venues, with the championship game taking place on November 19. Pakistan will play two exhibition games, one on September 29 against New Zealand and the other on October 3 against Australia, both in Hyderabad. After evaluating the security measures for a significant festival that day, the game against New Zealand will be played behind closed doors.

Babar added that the sid is not under any pressure but will miss its fans when it plays the World Cup matches in India during his pre-departure press conference in Pakistan.

“We’re all happy of the World Cup trip we took. We haven’t played in India before, but we don’t feel any pressure. We’ve done our investigation, and we’ve heard that the circumstances are comparable to those in other Asian nations. Being the captain this time around is an honour, and I sincerely hope we return with a trophy.

We shall regrettably be without the supporters. We will play in crowded stadiums since, as far as I know, all of the games are sold out. Even though they won’t be present, our followers will still show their support by posting on social media. Although I have not personally witnessed it yet, I have heard that Indian fans also display their devotion, which makes me want to play there as well.

During the Asia Cup final cricket match between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo, Sri Lanka, India’s Mohammed Siraj celebrates the wicket of Sri Lanka’s Dhananjaya de Silva.

Mohammed Siraj, an Indian fast bowler, has recaptured the top spot in the ODI bowler rankings in advance of the ICC World Cup. Siraj advanced eight spots as a result of his outstanding performance in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka. He rose to the top spot because to his outstanding performance spell in which he needed only 6/21 to bowl out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs. Siraj had dropped to second place in March of this year, but he has since surpassed elite bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Rashid Khan, and Trent Boult.

Siraj’s comeback to the top of the standings is a huge boost for India as the World Cup approaches. His current form and consistency have made him an invaluable asset for the club, and he has replaced Mohammed Shami, who missed the majority of the Asia Cup this month, as the first choice in the playing XI.

Along with Siraj, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan, two Afghan spinners, saw an increase in their rankings. Rashid Khan is currently rated fifth in the ODI bowling rankings, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman is currently ranked fourth. Both spinners have contributed significantly to Afghanistan’s limited-overs cricket success and will be essential to their team’s World Cup run.

Keshav Maharaj of South Africa, who finished outside the top 10, had a remarkable rise in the rankings. Maharaj climbed ten spots to number 15 in the rankings, a career-high performance, because to his performance in the most recent ODI series against Australia, where he claimed eight wickets at an average of 16.87 and an economy rate of just 4.07 per over.

Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa moved up one spot to ninth in the ODI batting rankings after an outstanding performance against Australia in the fourth ODI, in which he scored 174 runs at a 209.64 strike rate. Ben Stokes, who recently announced his retirement, made an incredible return to ODI cricket at The Oval with a stunning 182-run innings, moving him up to position 36 in the rankings.

Afghanistan’s final Asia Cup 2023 Group B encounter against Sri Lanka resulted in a close two-win loss for Afghanistan

Bishamber Yadav,6 september 2023

Tuesday night, Sri Lanka narrowly advanced to the Asia Cup Super 4 stage with a thrilling two-run triumph. Tuesday’s last group game was dramatic as Afghanistan’s quest of a difficult goal took an unexpected turn. Based on estimations of the net run rate, Afghanistan briefly appeared to be in position to eliminate Sri Lanka from the competition; for them to join Bangladesh in moving out of Group B, they needed to reach a daunting 292-run mark in 37.1 overs. Afghanistan, however, didn’t appear to be aware of a critical calculation: they might have still advanced to the Super 4 by scoring 295 runs in the following three deliveries.

The 11th batter, Fazalhaq Farooqi, held off the following two balls from the part-time spinner de Silva in an exciting turn of events. Rashid Khan was unfortunately left stranded at the non-striker’s end as he was called out for a leg before wicket on the third delivery. As a result, Afghanistan’s innings was ended after 289 runs in 37.4 overs, falling just short of the necessary total and giving Sri Lanka a dramatic victory.

If they had been able to hit certain run targets at crucial times, they might have been able to surpass Sri Lanka in terms of net run rate. Here are several crucial run targets:

after 37.2 overs, 37.3 overs, 37.5 overs, 296 over 38 overs, or 297 over 38.1.

They needed their No. 11 Fazalhaq Farooqi to do the feats of valour in order to accomplish this. He had the opportunity to reach these goals by hitting a four on the first ball of the 38th over, a six on the third, fourth, or fifth delivery, or even by taking a single to give Rashid, who was batting at 27 runs off 16 balls, the chance to try and win the match on his own. The game was on the verge of being decided by a single run, but Sri Lanka eventually maintained composure to win handily.

It’s interesting to note that Jonathan Trott, the head coach of Afghanistan, said that the side had not been informed of all the specifics of the various target situations. Trott claims that Afghanistan was only aware that they needed to reach the mark in 37.1 overs.

Due to Afghanistan’s elimination from the group stage, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka joined Group A’s India and Pakistan in making it to the Super Fours stage of the Asia Cup. Bangladesh had recently thrashed Afghanistan in Lahore by a commanding 89-run margin.
