In a continued effort to promote social awareness, the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police, led by Commissioner Madhukar Pandey, organized an interactive programme with the principals, headmasters, and headmistresses of approximately 104 schools and colleges within their jurisdiction.
The event, held on Tuesday at the Samvad Hall in the MBVV headquarters on Mira Road, aimed to raise awareness on various critical issues, including drug abuse, traffic discipline, cybercrime, and offences against girls and women.
Police Inspector Amar Marathe from the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) discussed preventive measures that school and college management should implement to combat drug abuse. He elaborated on different types of narcotic substances and their harmful effects on students. Inspector Marathe also highlighted that the MBVV police had registered 76 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and seized contraband worth Rs. 334 crore this year. Additionally, action was taken against 92 pan stall owners operating within 100 meters of educational institutions.
Emphasizing the importance of forming school transport committees, Police Inspector Dadaram Karande spoke about instilling traffic discipline in students, drivers, and attendants. He addressed the dangers of traffic violations such as riding without helmets, driving without seatbelts, and using phones while driving.
Police Inspector Sujitkumar Gunjkar from the cyber cell highlighted online risks and provided tips on staying safe from cyber frauds and how to register complaints. API Tejshri Shinde, who heads the Bharosa (Trust) Cell, discussed the legal provisions to tackle atrocities against women and children, focusing on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (PoCSO) Act.
This interactive programme is part of the MBVV police’s broader initiative to enhance community safety and awareness on crucial social issues.
