Dr. Kapil Sonar is an MDS Orthodontist and Senior Resident at AIIMS New Delhi, committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered orthodontic care. His work combines clinical precision, research, and innovation to help patients achieve healthier smiles and renewed confidence.
His journey into dentistry began with a passion for healthcare and a fascination with orthodontics, a specialty he admired for its unique blend of science and artistry. After completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai, he prepared for the highly competitive Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET), securing an All India Rank 1 in the July 2021 examination. This achievement earned him admission to AIIMS New Delhi, where he completed his Master’s in Orthodontics under the guidance of some of India’s leading orthodontists.
During his postgraduate training, Dr. Sonar gained extensive experience managing a wide range of orthodontic cases. Today, as a Senior Resident at AIIMS New Delhi, he continues to expand his expertise in clear aligner therapy, interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment, orthognathic surgery, craniofacial anomalies, and cleft lip and palate care.
Beyond clinical practice, he is deeply passionate about research and believes that scientific evidence is the foundation of quality patient care. His master’s thesis was published in The Angle Orthodontist, one of the world’s oldest peer-reviewed orthodontic journals. He has also received the Commendation Prize at the Annual Research Day of AIIMS New Delhi in the Senior Resident category, competing against more than 100 participants from both the medical and dental fields. Regular participation in conferences and workshops reflects his commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
Looking ahead, Dr. Sonar aims to establish an exclusive orthodontic practice while making advanced digital dentistry and modern orthodontic treatments more accessible and affordable in India. He is particularly interested in digital dentistry, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and emerging technologies that are shaping the future of orthodontics.
Dr. Sonar draws inspiration from the pioneers of orthodontics, but says his greatest motivation comes from witnessing the transformation in his patients’ confidence. For him, success is not defined by awards but by the trust patients place in him and the positive impact he creates in their lives.
His advice to aspiring healthcare professionals is simple: stay curious, remain humble, and never stop learning. He believes that excellence is built through consistency, resilience, and compassion, with every patient deserving honesty, empathy, and the highest standard of care.
