Every year on July 1, India observes National Doctors Day to honour the relentless dedication, compassion and contribution of doctors who continue to shape the nation’s healthcare system. From pioneering advanced treatments and transforming patient care to building trust during moments of crisis, doctors across the country have become symbols of hope and resilience.
In this special edition, National Doctors Day 2026: Success Stories of India’s Most Inspiring Doctors, we celebrate remarkable medical professionals whose journeys, innovations and commitment to healing continue to inspire millions and redefine the future of healthcare in India.
Dr. Nina Mansukhani is a senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based in Pune with over 25 years of experience in women’s healthcare. Holding an MBBS, DGO, DNB, and the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG), UK, she has dedicated her career to providing ethical, evidence-based care while supporting women through every stage of life.
Her fascination with the art and science of childbirth first drew her to obstetrics and gynaecology. The opportunity to care for women during some of the most significant moments of their lives—from pregnancy and childbirth to menopause—gave her a sense of purpose that continues to inspire her every day. After completing her MBBS from B.J. Medical College, Pune, she pursued her DGO at KEM Hospital, Pune, followed by a DNB at Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, before earning her FRCOG from the United Kingdom.
An army child by upbringing and a proud Punekar for the past four decades, Dr. Mansukhani has built a career marked by versatility and clinical excellence. Her expertise spans high-risk obstetrics, infertility, advanced gynaecological care, menopause management, and the treatment of large uterine and ovarian tumours. She is particularly known for her ethical approach to practice and her commitment to encouraging safe, natural childbirth whenever medically possible, earning the trust of countless women and families.
Beyond clinical practice, she has remained closely connected to academics, mentoring young obstetricians and gynaecologists as they begin their professional journeys. She believes that sharing knowledge and guiding the next generation is as important as treating patients.
Dr. Mansukhani credits her teachers, especially Dr. Jaya Bhat of Bengaluru, for shaping her values as a doctor. Her father also remains one of her greatest inspirations, teaching her that patients’ interests must always come before everything else. As a woman in medicine, she acknowledges that establishing credibility often required proving herself repeatedly. However, she believes that trust naturally follows when patients experience genuine care, honesty, and competence.
Outside medicine, she finds joy in creative pursuits such as doodling, mosaic art, painting, and art therapy, which provide balance to her demanding professional life. She is deeply grateful to her family, particularly her parents, twin sister, and husband, whose unwavering support—including navigating a long-distance marriage for 16 years—allowed her to pursue her career wholeheartedly.
Her advice to aspiring doctors is simple: there is no substitute for hard work. Medicine demands dedication, resilience, and an enduring love for the profession. For Dr. Nina Mansukhani, every challenging case is an opportunity to learn, every patient is a responsibility she deeply values, and every life entrusted to her care is a privilege she never takes for granted.
