Every year on July 1, India observes National Doctors Day to honour the relentless dedication, compassion and contribution of doctors who continue to shape the nation’s healthcare system. From pioneering advanced treatments and transforming patient care to building trust during moments of crisis, doctors across the country have become symbols of hope and resilience.
In this special edition, National Doctors Day 2026: Success Stories of India’s Most Inspiring Doctors, we celebrate remarkable medical professionals whose journeys, innovations and commitment to healing continue to inspire millions and redefine the future of healthcare in India.
Dr. Preetam Kumar Jain is a Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist and Hemato-Oncologist, and the Director of OncoWorld Cancer Centre in Mumbai. With expertise in solid tumors, blood cancers, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and precision oncology, he is committed to delivering evidence-based, personalized cancer care. He is also associated with leading hospitals including Breach Candy, Saifee, Wockhardt, Bhatia, and Bombay Hospital.
For Dr. Preetam Jain, medicine was always a calling, but oncology became his life’s purpose during his early years of medical training. Witnessing the emotional and physical impact of cancer on patients and their families inspired him to dedicate his career to a specialty where cutting-edge science meets profound human connection. He believes that while medicine can treat disease, compassion and hope often become equally powerful forms of healing.
His professional journey has been defined by continuous learning and a commitment to global standards of care. After completing his MD and DM, along with specialized ECMO training, he further enhanced his expertise through Harvard Medical School’s Advanced Oncology certification and the prestigious European Certification in Medical Oncology. Driven by the vision of making advanced cancer treatment more accessible, he established OncoWorld Cancer Centre, where patients receive comprehensive care tailored to their individual needs.
Alongside clinical practice, Dr. Preetam Jain is deeply involved in cancer awareness and prevention. He regularly conducts educational programs, screening camps, and public health initiatives, believing that early detection and timely intervention remain among the most effective tools in the fight against cancer.
His greatest inspiration comes from his patients. Their resilience, courage, and determination in the face of adversity continually remind him why he chose oncology. At the same time, he acknowledges that caring for patients with complex and advanced cancers demands immense emotional strength. Balancing intensive clinical practice, research, and the responsibility of guiding families through difficult decisions has been one of the defining challenges of his career, yet every patient who achieves remission reinforces his commitment to the profession.
Outside medicine, Dr. Preetam Jain believes that caring for others begins with caring for oneself. A passionate cricketer, he recently celebrated victory at Mumbai’s Doctors’ Cricket Carnival alongside fellow medical professionals. He also values time spent in nature, practices mindfulness and spirituality, and enjoys supporting his young daughter’s artistic pursuits, finding balance through family and personal well-being.
His advice to aspiring professionals is to let empathy remain the foundation of every decision. Technical excellence, continuous learning, and integrity are essential, but lasting success comes from the positive impact one creates in the lives of others.
For Dr. Preetam Kumar Jain, success is not measured by titles or credentials. It is reflected in every survivor’s smile, every family that finds hope during difficult times, and every step taken toward building a future where compassionate, world-class cancer care is accessible to all.
