Every year on July 1, India observes National Doctors Day to honour the relentless dedication, compassion and contribution of doctors who continue to shape the nation’s healthcare system. From pioneering advanced treatments and transforming patient care to building trust during moments of crisis, doctors across the country have become symbols of hope and resilience.

In this special edition, National Doctors Day 2026: Success Stories of India’s Most Inspiring Doctors, we celebrate remarkable medical professionals whose journeys, innovations and commitment to healing continue to inspire millions and redefine the future of healthcare in India.

Dr. Sachin Arora is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in New Delhi whose work extends far beyond the consulting room. With a career spanning clinical psychiatry, medical education, and corporate mental wellness, he has dedicated himself to improving mental healthcare while mentoring the next generation of doctors.

A first-generation doctor from Rohtak, Haryana, Dr. Arora’s journey is a testament to perseverance and purpose. He earned admission to a government medical college through the All India PMT examination on his very first attempt and completed his MBBS in Nagpur. His passion for understanding the human mind led him to pursue an MD in Psychiatry, which he also secured through a government seat on his first attempt. After serving as an Assistant Professor in a medical college, he transitioned into private psychiatric practice, where he has spent nearly a decade helping individuals navigate mental health challenges with compassion and evidence-based care.

One of the defining aspects of his journey has been overcoming adversity. For over two decades, Dr. Arora has lived with severe migraine attacks that frequently disrupted his studies, work, and daily life. Instead of allowing these challenges to limit his ambitions, he chose consistency over circumstances, proving that determination often outweighs obstacles.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Arora has emerged as one of India’s most respected medical educators. Through his long association with the Delhi Academy of Medical Sciences (DAMS), he has taught more than 140,000 MBBS students over the past 13 years. Hundreds of practicing psychiatrists across the country have benefited from his mentorship, creating a ripple effect that continues to influence patient care nationwide.

Driven by a vision to make mental healthcare more accessible beyond hospitals, he also founded The Cortex Advisory, a mental wellness initiative focused on promoting psychological well-being in workplaces and helping organizations build healthier, more resilient teams.

Dr. Arora credits his family as his greatest source of strength, especially his wife, Dr. Prerna, whom he met during medical school. Her unwavering support over the past 17 years has been instrumental in helping him balance the demands of medicine, teaching, and entrepreneurship.

His philosophy is simple: success is not measured solely by personal achievements but by the positive impact created in the lives of others. Whether treating a patient, mentoring a young doctor, or advocating for better mental health awareness, Dr. Sachin Arora continues to work toward a future where quality psychiatric care and mental well-being are accessible to everyone.
