Russia’s invasion and attacks on Ukraine have become one of the largest country-on-country attacks after the events of World War II. It has been gaining a lot of momentum day by day.

Threats and sanctions put on Russia by the western alliance have done nothing but provoke their actions. Snake Island or Zmiinyi Island is a roughly 16 hectares rocky island, under the Ukrainian Territory that lies about 300km west of Crimea.

On 24th February, Russian warships launched a swift attack on the famous Snake Island of Ukraine. A video has surfaced of the incident where the Russian soldiers are seen asking the Ukrainian soldiers to surrender or else, they will open fire on them.

In response, one of the Ukrainian soldiers on the island is heard asking his fellow soldiers if he can tell the Russian soldier to “go f*** himself” and later asks the warship soldiers to “Go F*** Yourself”. The 13 soldiers on the island died just 25 miles away from NATO territory.

A similar video was found circulating on social media where one of the soldiers on the same Snake Island is live streaming while Russia is on its way to invade the island. We can see a few soldiers in uniform on the island. Soon, we can hear a gunshot, followed by yelling, where the video is abruptly stopped.

Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelensky, honoured the 13 soldiers who lost their lives while “protecting the borders”. Although, the official Russian account of the same incident is dramatically different. According to Moscow, 82 soldiers that were present on the Snake Island surrendered to them voluntarily and did not make any mention of carrying out strikes or causing any casualties.

On the first day itself, Russia achieved its goal of destroying 83 land-based targets in Ukraine. According to Kyiv, 137 civilians and military personnel have been killed on Thursday, 24th February.

On 26th February, Moscow agreed to have “talks” if the Ukrainian military surrendered and allow Russia to free them from “oppression”. In a recent statement made by President Putin, he calls upon the Ukrainian military to remove the leadership from Kyiv as he calls the authorities “gang of drug addicts and Neo-Nazis”.
