For days India has been praying to get people back from the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. Thousands of innocent people are hiding in bunkers as thousands of soldiers fight for their lives on borders.
Latest reports come bearing the most heartbreaking news for India: We have lost a Karnataka student to Kharkiv shelling.
Arindam Bagchi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson announced the news by tweeting, “With profound sorrow, we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family”.
He added, “Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine”.
21-year-old Naveen was studying in the fourth year of his medical degree. Apparently, he went out to retrieve food packages when he was hit by shelling. His family has been informed.
Earlier today, the Indian embassy has requested all Indian citizens to evacuate Kyiv as soon as possible and by any means. “All Indian nationals including students are advised to leave Kyiv urgently today. Preferably by available trains or through any other means available,” the Indian Embassy in Ukraine tweeted.
More than 16,000 Indians are still stuck in Ukraine. According to the reports, around 8,000 have left.
