Putin: “Sanctions that are being introduced are akin to a declaration of war” on Russia. The Russian president said any attempt by a country to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine would be seen as joining the conflict.
Putin said in his speech that if Kyiv keeps acting in the same manner, it is questioning the future of Ukrainian statehood. According to him, Russian troops fought successfully in Ukraine, and they did not send conscripts to the front.
Russian troops have been invading Ukraine since February 24, but the defenders have successfully repelled them. Losing soldiers and equipment will mean that the Russians will fail to accomplish their strategic goals, including the conquest of Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kyiv.
As Putin stated in his speech, “Russia had to defend the Russian-speaking inhabitants of eastern Ukraine and its interests,” he said, adding that Ukraine presented “absolutely real threats” to Russia.
He warned Ukraine that “if the current government in Kyiv continues to act in this way, it will question the future of Ukrainian statehood.”
Furthermore, the Russian president emphasized that the army has met major strategic priorities and it does not deploy conscripts to the front, even though such voices already exist in Russia.
In addition, the Kremlin head stated that “sanctions imposed on Russia by many countries in the world are akin to a declaration of war.”
