WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow users to share files without needing an internet connection. This feature is similar to Apple’s AirDrop and Android’s Quick Share, enabling users to send documents, videos, photos, and other files without consuming their mobile data.
The feature was first identified by WABetaInfo in January, and the Meta-owned messaging platform has been testing it on Android devices. A recent report suggests that developers are now working to bring this functionality to iOS devices as well.
The offline file-sharing feature, currently under development, is expected to be included in a future version of the app. On iOS devices, the implementation might differ slightly, requiring users to scan a QR code to initiate the transfer. WhatsApp will reportedly use the built-in Quick Share (formerly Nearby Share) for file exchanges between devices.
While WhatsApp already supports file sharing up to 2GB, this new feature will be particularly beneficial for users looking to share larger files or for those in areas with poor or no network connectivity. As with other WhatsApp features, the file transfer tool is expected to offer end-to-end encryption, ensuring that the content of your files remains private.
It’s important to note that the offline file transfer feature is still in the early stages of development, and there is no confirmed timeline for its release. Stay tuned to Mumbai Uncensored News for updates on this and other tech developments.
