Dr. Kshitij Arun Manerikar, Consultant Oncosurgeon, Advanced Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeon
Dr. Kshitij Arun Manerikar is a Consultant Oncosurgeon and Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon based in Pune. His practice focuses on the surgical treatment of Head and Neck, Breast, Gastrointestinal, and Gynecological cancers, while also specializing in advanced minimally invasive and robotic procedures.
Medicine has always been deeply rooted in his life. Coming from a family of doctors on his maternal side, he was particularly inspired by his grandfather, the late Dr. B. D. Pimparkar, a renowned gastroenterologist whose dedication to patient care left a lasting impact on him. Driven by a passion for surgery and helping others, Dr. Manerikar completed his MBBS with distinction from Smolensk State Medical Academy, Russia, earning the prestigious Red Degree, before pursuing General Surgery and later specializing in Surgical Oncology.
His journey, however, was not without challenges. At a crucial stage of his career, he put his medical aspirations on hold to care for his ailing father and support his family’s educational publishing business. With unwavering encouragement from his mother and sister, he returned to medicine, completed his MS in General Surgery from Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Pune, and went on to pursue a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute, Ahmedabad. Further training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery enabled him to bring cutting-edge cancer care closer to patients across Maharashtra.
Dr. Manerikar credits his parents as his greatest inspiration, while acknowledging his wife as his strongest pillar of support. His personal experience as a caregiver has given him a deeper understanding of the emotional challenges faced by patients and families, making empathy and communication central to his practice.
Beyond surgery, he is passionate about cancer awareness and education. Through social media, podcasts, public talks, research publications, and national and international conferences, he actively promotes awareness about prevention, early diagnosis, and modern treatment options.
His message to aspiring professionals is simple: success is rarely a straight path. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but perseverance, integrity, and continuous learning always create opportunities for growth.
He strongly believes that awareness is more powerful than treatment because early diagnosis saves lives. As he often reminds his patients, “Cancer is not a death sentence. With timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, a cure is absolutely possible.”
